Hi everyone! How was your summer?!
I’m very excited to say that our first writing group back after a break over the summer is this Thursday night at 6.30 to 8.30pm. For those who are new subscribers, we always meet via zoom on the last Thursday of the month.
A few practical points:
All are welcome, including newcomers.
Bring a pen and paper
We often have the odd baby or small person in the background and are fine with that.
Please always mute yourself unless you are speaking.
We spend time writing together as well as sharing thoughts / work.
Light a candle if you wish to represent creativity, passion and, for this session, the seasonal feeling we have of needing light in the darkness (at least those of us in the Northern hemisphere!) as we begin to spiral downwards into Winter. If you are joining from the Southern hemisphere, your candle can remind us all that light will indeed return!
This month’s theme:
In our last Writing for Change meet up in May we all made ‘pledges’ of what we hoped to have achieved by our next meeting in September. I downloaded a copy of the pledges you left in the chat but I’m afraid I have bad news. As some of you know, my return to work has been plagued by tech issues - first my phone went in the river and then my laptop just went black and refused to be revived. I’m sorry to say that the downloaded pledges were stored in my now dead laptop and there is no way of retrieving them. I hope you can all remember the pledges you made and tell us how you got on when we check in at the start of the meeting. And please forgive me for not backing up that file!!
If you did not attend the May meeting or are new to Writing for Change, you might like to check in with just a little bit about you and what brings you to the group. If you are working on a writing project, do tell us about it. Checking in is optional though so don’t worry if you don’t want to speak.
In keeping with the season, and following on from our pledges in May, our theme will be Harvest. Let’s explore how we feel when we have completed something: a paragraph, a chapter, an article, or even a book. Maybe this chimes with how we feel at certain points in the seasons or certain seasons of our lives. We will explore this through writing exercises followed by feedback and chat.
OK, here comes the zoom link after the paywall. Looking forward to seeing you all on Thursday! xx
