I’m busy this week. My post last week, Disrespecting the Mother, which I hesitated to publish because I was not sure if people would ‘get’ it, struck such a chord that absolutely loads of you have been getting in touch with me across all different platforms to say how much it resonated. This made me extremely happy and all the more determined to keep writing from the heart here on substack, being creative and spontaneous and honest, just like I was when I first started out on blogger in 2010.
Amazingly, too, I have been commissioned to write an article for a newspaper about the ‘family based misogyny’ that my original ‘Disrespecting the Mother’ post was about. Of course, I’ve had to leave out the stuff about Mother Nature and the Goddess and the Virgin Mary - give it a decade and they’ll be asking for articles about that stuff as well I reckon! But it’s great that this conversation seems to be about to go mainstream!
I’ll share the piece when it’s published on my social channels and of course in the substack app.
Anyway, in the course of writing the piece I got in touch with the amazing
and sent her a few questions, and obviously I wasn’t able to use all that she had sent me in the piece. So I’m sharing the Q&A below, as a bonus treat for my paid subscribers, because it’s just too rich and wonderful to leave stuck in my inbox.I’ve had a second commission too (commissions seem to be like buses) to write a piece about consent in birth, and I am also still hoping to get The Word is Woman out on Friday too, in spite of being at FiLiA conference in Glasgow, where I am on a panel about women’s healthcare called Leave Your Dignity at the Door. I hope to see some of you there, and I am sure I will have much to write about when I return next week.
But for now, I bring you the wonderful Sharon Blackie.
