About Milli Hill
Milli Hill is the author of the bestselling The Positive Birth Book, Give Birth like a Feminist, and (for preteens), My Period.
The Positive Birth Book (Pinter and Martin, 2017) has sold almost 100 thousand copies world wide and been named as Mumsnet’s ‘Best Overall Pregnancy Book’ in 2022.
Give Birth like a Feminist (HQ / Harper Collins 2019) is a deep dive into women’s experiences in the modern birth room, and asks, is a healthy baby all that matters? Don’t women matter too? It was named one of the Independent’s best pregnancy books and has been featured on BBC Radio 2 and BBC Radio 5 with Emma Barnett.
Her latest book, My Period (Wren&Rook / Hachette 2021), is for preteen girls and aims to give them all the information they need to have a positive start to menstruation. TV’s Dr Chris van Tulleken has called it ‘phenomenal’ and children’s author Onjali Rauf says it’s ‘a must have for every girl’.
All three of Milli’s books have been written from home (in a house that has been both the village forge and hairdresser!) whilst raising a young family. She is particularly interested in helping women with ‘the struggle of the juggle’ and keeping their creative fire alive during the chaos of parenting.
As a journalist since 2013 Milli has written for many publications including Telegraph, Guardian, ipaper, GoodtoKnow, Daily Mail and Mother&Baby. She has been a columnist for Best Magazine and Telegraph Women. You can see a portfolio of her journalism here.
Milli has spoken globally on women’s experience in the birth room and has appeared on BBC Breakfast, BBC Radio 4, BBC Radio 2, BBC 5 Live, talkradio, and many leading podcasts including Deliciously Ella and The Irish Times Women’s Podcast.
Prior to turning to writing as a creative outlet when her children were smaller, Milli was a Dramatherapist (a form of Arts Psychotherapy), and worked with a wide range of clients from children in foster care to adults in rehab and with a diagnosis of personality disorder. She continues to use her therapeutic training both to help her unpick the psychological dimensions of her writing topics, and to remind her of the healing and transformative power of story and creativity.
She is represented by Jane Graham Maw of Graham Maw Christie.
Milli offers one to one coaching to non-fiction writers. More info on her website.
