Book announcement etc!
Well this newsletter was supposed to be a creative project, a place for me to expand my writing horizons, but it feels like nobody’s horizons are expanding right now, and if anything, they are shrinking. I don’t know about you but I hardly ever seem to leave my kitchen, and mostly I’m just sat or stood at the table trying to persuade kids to ‘just do this one thing’ before they get the thing they really want again, SCREENTIME.
Fair play to the people who can keep their businesses, dreams, creativity, fitness and baking abilities alive against this backdrop, but to be honest, I’m feeling a lot more mentally healthy now that I’ve accepted that I’m not one of them!
For that reason I’ve abandoned hope of this newsletter being a weekly work of art, and I’m afraid for now I will just use it sparingly to tell you the odd thing. And the odd thing I have to tell you this week is - my next book has finally been ‘announced’. So after nearly a year of keeping it top secret, I can finally reveal that it’s a book for preteens all about PERIODS. Here’s the fabulous cover:
I’m really really excited about it. The illustrations are completely amazing, and I’m happy too to be joining up the dots between periods and birth in terms of how women feel about their bodies, the shame and stigma attached to them, and how we can work towards changing that. I hope it inspires a whole new generation of young girls to view their bodies in a much more positive way - and who knows, maybe even make friends with their period.
You can preorder it from Amazon or any good book shop, and it’s out on May 27th (which just happens to be my middle daughter’s birthday). I’m sure I will email you again before then to give you all the news! And I hope by then we are all out of this dreadful lockdown, and things are looking much brighter for all of us.
Love to you all, Milli x
