I have had a post brewing for a while now with the title ‘Menopause as a return’. I want to write about how, although in one sense you could see menopause as the end of fertility, or indeed, the beginning of a new phase, another way to view it is as a return. A return to the core person you were, before fertility happened.

I’ll save the rest of my thoughts on that for the post itself, but, as the rain comes down and we head into Autumn, I thought it might be nice to gather tomorrow evening and explore this idea of ‘return’ - not necessarily in menopause - but more widely, a return to the essential nucleus of who we are.

All of you who come to the group (and new members are very very welcome!), want to ‘write for change’. But why? And what change? And where did this passionate person who wants to use her voice to shake things up, originate?!

I often wonder that about myself.

I think back to myself as a child, or a young teen, and I try to understand where this personality came from that is never very accepting of ‘the way things are’. Who always wants to call out injustice, or speak up even if it lands her in hot water.

As writers, connecting to this core part of ourselves can remind us of why we write, why we need to write.

So I invite you to join me tomorrow evening, Thursday 28th August, from 6.30pm to 8.30pm UK time, and we will explore all of this, and probably more! I very much look forward to it.

This will be a writing group, not a therapy group, so although we may touch on aspects of our personal history, our focus will be on how this impacts our writing, rather than any wider exploration.

If you’ve not been before, all you need is passion and a pen. Some people light a candle in the background too. There is no pressure to share or to even to speak if you don’t want to, although I do ask that, at least at the start, you have your camera on. The sessions usually consist of a mix of time to write, with prompts, and time to share for those who wish to.

As usual this group is only for my paid subscribers, so the zoom link follows after the paywall. All are welcome. Hope to see you there, Milli x
