This weekend I am headed to London to speak at the Battle of Ideas. It’s a vibrant event where the motto is ‘free speech allowed’, and it creates panel discussions on a wide variety of topics, with speakers with differing views. Last year I took part in a panel about sex education in schools, and this year I’ve been asked to debate whether breast is ‘always best’, alongside LLL leader Harriet Rudd, independent policy advisor Rebecca Steinfeld, and University lecturer and co-director of Feed, Dr Erin Williams. The chair will be Ellie Lee, professor of family and parenting research at the University of Kent.
You can read more about the panel, and find out how to get tickets, here.
Each of us will speak for 5 to 6 minutes after which time the discussion will be opened up to the floor.
So for my post on The Mule this week, I am sharing my draft of my 5 minute talk for the event, for my paid subscribers only. I would love your feedback, and obviously I will be stealing any lucid points you make in the comments and passing them off as my own original thoughts ;-)
The Word is Woman #10 will be out on Friday, and there will be another Sunday thread on, you guessed it, Sunday!
Until then, here are my thoughts on the question ‘Is breast always best?’.
I’d like to begin by saying that, as these days I’ve become known for being an ‘outspoken gender critical feminist’, it’s slightly terrifying to have been asked to take part in this discussion on such a comparatively divisive and controversial topic. *cue riotous laughter*
