Would you like to read some bone chilling microfiction?
It's cold off the press from last night's writing group!
Today is the perfect moment in the calendar to shut all the doors, light the fire or a few candles, get yourself a hot chocolate or a rich glass of red, and spook yourself out with some ghostly tales! Tonight, as they say, the veil is thinner between this world and the next, and at last night’s Writing for Change, some of you definitely channelled this dark energy!
If you weren’t able to attend, here’s a brief summary of what we did that you can use as a prompt for your own writing exercises, and then some of the stories that attendees created for you to enjoy…
Before that, two dates for your diary:
Firstly, our next and final Writing for Change meeting for 2025 is on Thursday 27th November.
At this meeting I am proposing a celebratory ‘Salon’.
The principle of the Salon is that it is a forum for ideas and creativity.
In our Salon, I would encourage people to share:
short pieces of writing / poetry - your own or another’s
a piece of music, perhaps played by you
an idea - this could be a piece of thought, an idea for a project, perhaps something you would like feedback on
a presentation about a surprising or interesting topic: this could be a writer you love, a place you have visited, or a topic people are unlikely to know much about.
I propose people take 10 minute slots at the Salon and that we then take time as a group to discuss the writing, idea, or presentation that has been offered to us.
I would imagine that 5 or 6 ‘offerings’ will be enough for our two hour slot but - let’s see how many of you come forward!
If you would like to share something at the November Salon, I would like you to contact me in advance with your proposition, just so that I can have an idea of what the programme will be.
Please contact me between now and 20th November to let me know what you wish to share, and the approx amount of time you think you will need. It may be that we have some ten minute presentations, and some shorter slots for example if someone wishes to read a poem or play a piece of music.
I am looking forward to it already and it will be a lovely way to end the year.
ALL WELCOME.
Second date for your diary is Saturday November 22nd:
