Zoom link: Writing for Change March 2024
Let's see what it all boils down to!
Hey everyone, we meet on Thursday evening 6.30pm - 8.30pm via Zoom (link at the end of this post), for our third writing group of the year! I can’t wait to see you all, and perhaps some new faces too. All are welcome, you just have to be a paid subscriber, which costs less than a fancy coffee a month, and supports me to keep writing.
This month we are going to think about the ‘pitch’. Don’t worry if you are not planning on actually ‘pitching’ your idea to anyone, the session will still be useful in terms of helping you to answer some key questions that will improve your writing, such as:
Who am I writing this for?
What is it actually about?
Why is it relevant, right now?
Why does it matter?
What do I want to change?
You will be able to use the process of exploring the answer to these questions to improve any writing project - a new substack, a feature or opinion article, an essay, a book. The process will help you work out the essence of your work, ‘what it all boils down to’.
I will talk about pitching ideas, as articles or as books, and my own experience of these processes. How do you get an editor to commission your idea? How do you write a book proposal? If you want to read more about the latter, here’s a post I wrote about it, using my own book proposal for Give Birth like a Feminist as a template.
As usual in our Thursday evening group, we will do plenty of actual writing - we will make space and time to actually get some words on paper. We will work for two hours with a short comfort break. The session will not be recorded. Some attendees like to light a small candle to represent their intention to shine / light things up / burn shit down (delete as applicable). 😂
It would be great if you could click like on this post and / or leave a comment if you are hoping to be there, so that I get a rough idea of numbers. I look forward to seeing you! Here comes the Zoom link you need. Milli x
