Absolutely! Write what YOU want - it’s your book - as I read yesterday about Annie Ernaux, she said of writing “...if it’s not a risk...it’s not worth writing...” - fabulous woman who won a Nobel Prize in Literature - https://www.theguardian.com/books/2023/may/21/annie-ernaux-french-writer-nobel-prize-literature?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other

That is a fantastic article, thank you Lynn! “My books are so short because I spend a long time writing them,” was a good quote for me today! (although editor says it must be 80k. Oh dear. Only another 35k words to go!). xxx

You have discovered the secret to great writing Milli. I believe if I write from the passion in my innermost being, it will send a message that others will hear. Being true to yourself will resonate with your readership so much better than you trying to guess what you are supposed to believe.

I think that's true, but it's also got to be well crafted and 'complete' in the sense that you can't just 'not care' and therefore just chuck down any old crap, carelessly. This is the problem for me, because it just takes so much time. And I'm running out of time (in terms of the book, at the very least!) xx

Oh absolutely. I think what I was trying to say is that the starting place is important and influences what comes next. Incoherent 'passion' doesn't take you to the finishing line, nor sell many books. Fortunately for your readers you have both passion and craft in abundance!
